Back Stabbers

They smile in your face
All the time they wanna to take your place
The back stabbers (back stabbers)

Back stabbers is a classic r&b song performed by the O’Jays. Even though the song is warning men about their male friends wanting to take their women, those particular lyrics of the song apply to so many situations in general.

From back stabber to hater, the term has changed but the meaning is still the same.

What does this has to do with being an erotic artist, you ask. This back stabbing situation has not only hit close to home, but has made me realize just how many other artists, erotic and otherwise, have been victimized by such insensitive and disrespectful people.

I’m not speaking for the artists that are on a much bigger scale. I’m making my voice heard for those who are out here still trying to make it. I’m speaking for the artists who either haven’t made their name known as of yet or who happens to be the big fish in a small pond. I’m speaking for the artists who still work a regular job during the day and are trying by all their might to be creative, perform and make their dreams come true at night. This is for all the artists who has taken that leap of faith and has stopped working the regular 9 to 5 to focus and put everything they own on their talents. I’m saying this loud and clear for all of the artists who put real time, thought, blood, sweat and tears into their creations…

BACK STABBERS WE GOT OUR EYES ON YOU!

There was a person in my life that I had to let go. Let me first say, I’m not here to put anybody on blast but I am here to tell others to be careful when you’re in a situation that makes your spidey senses tingle. This person was basically trying to steal not only my ideas as a writer, performer and creator but trying to step into a molecule and cell of my DNA and mimic my style. Now we’ve all heard the Charles Caleb Colton quote, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,” however, imitation and stealing are two different things.

When I have someone who hears my ideas and they then take them and try to make them their own, it’s a problem. When I write a poem or a story and it’s read by someone who then writes a piece almost exactly like it, it’s a problem. When I dress and perform a certain way and a person tries to do the exact same thing during their performance, it’s a problem. When a person is supposed to be someone you trust because you’re working with them as a partner and you discover they have been lying to you about what they’ve really been doing because they’re trying to beat you to the finish line, it’s a problem. These all are back stabbing, hater ass moves from a frienemy. (That’s an enemy who’s pretending to be your friend).

When I decided to talk about this situation to a few close friends of mine (REAL friends) I was told they had suspicion about this individual all along. They too noticed that she was ‘bitin’ my style’ as we used to say back in the 80’s. They saw that every time I posted a poem or story, she was quick to post a similar piece soon after. They noticed that all of a sudden I went from being an only child to being a twin, to being morphed into a body that wasn’t mine. Trust me, I don’t want to be merged into someone else’s body, I like my own body too much.

Now that this person has been removed from my life, I certainly feel better. I don’t feel like I have someone looking over my shoulder every time I write something so they can try to duplicate what I’ve worked so hard to perfect my entire life. I don’t feel like I have someone clinging on to every single word I speak every time I say something so they can later use what I said and try to convince everyone they’re the originator of the idea.

What I’ve found out since I’m off the block with her every once in awhile I still hear from others who are connected to both of us that tell me, she’s not as creative as she was when we were friends. (Apparently there’s no one else she can imitate).

What I learned from a poet, writer, and my friend and mentor, D-Revolution is this happens often and to be careful.

What I have learned as well is both karma and Karma Eve can be a bitch and no one can be me no matter how hard they try. She just proved that I’m on the right track with my creativity. How do you stab someone in the back if they’re wearing Teflon, you dumb bitch! Remember, I was schooling you and you didn’t even get the full core of my wisdom. You got the basics bitch, not the treasure! No one will ever be able to do what I do, like I do. A truly creative person (and an intelligent woman) knows that.

So the next time you’re getting that funny feeling about someone or you’re noticing things that aren’t supposed to be happening, give that weak ass individual the BOOT!
If you’re the soul-stealing motherfucker remember just because your ways are monkey don’t mean you can stop a show!

Erotically Speaking,
Karma Eve
